The Teen Outreach Program operates on three main program components; service learning, classroom activities based on “Changing Scenes” curriculum, classroom discussions that connect community service experience to classroom learning and the participants own lives. The Teen Outreach Program has been evaluated for over 20 years in various settings with the following results:
- 11% lower rate of course failure.
- 14% lower rate of school suspension.
- 33% lower rate of pregnancy.
- 60% lower rate of school drop-out.
Impact offers Teen Outreach Program in selected communities that correlate with the epidemiological profile for rates of teen pregnancy. Teen Outreach Program is a year round program for youth divided into two age groups, middle and high school. Students must volunteer no less than 40 hours in a year, attend 80% of weekly meetings and commit to the Teen Outreach Program for one year. Impact provides two staff members per site to oversee all lessons and community service projects. Youth are provided an educational trip, team building trip, fun trip, transportation to service projects, weekly meetings, one on one time with staff for preparation for high education and various opportunities for leadership conferences. Current locations for Teen Outreach Program are Starr Iva Middle School, Toxaway United Methodist, Word Up Teens, Seneca High School and West Oak High School.
